Japanese Tax in Odoo

Japan implemented the Qualified Invoice System (適格請求書等保存方式) in October 2023. Businesses must issue qualified invoices with registration numbers to allow buyers to claim input tax credits. Odoo supports Japanese localization with community modules.

Qualified Invoice System

# Requirements since Oct 2023:
# 1. Seller registers as Qualified Invoice Issuer
# 2. Registration number (T + 13 digits) printed on invoices
# 3. Invoice must show: tax rate, tax amount per rate
# 4. Buyer can only claim input tax credit from qualified invoices

# In Odoo:
# Company → Registration Number: T1234567890123
# Invoice template: include registration number
# Separate tax lines for 10% and 8% items
# Total tax amount per rate clearly shown

Japanese Fiscal Year

# Japanese fiscal year options:
# April 1 — March 31 (most common for corporations)
# January 1 — December 31 (some companies)
# Government: April 1 — March 31

# Configure: Settings → Accounting → Fiscal Year
# Lock date: set after closing each fiscal year

Japanese Chart of Accounts

# Standard account groups:
# 資産 (Assets): 1XXX
# 負債 (Liabilities): 2XXX
# 純資産 (Equity): 3XXX
# 収益 (Revenue): 4XXX
